Assessing patient's quality of life after open hart surgery in Bandar Abbass, Iran

Introduction: Promoting patient's quality of life must be the main goal of medical interferences. The increased need and demand for heart surgery, indicates the importance of caring about patients and their quality of life. This study was carried out to investigate the quality of life after heart surgery in Bandar Abbas hospital. Methods: In this descriptive study, the quality of life among 100 patients after heart surgery was investigated. The data was collected using the SF-36 questionnaire which had 36 questions divided into 8 categories. The scores were between 0 to 100, the higher scores indicate better quality of life. The SPSS was used to analyze the date. Results: The average score among male patients was higher than females. The findings show significant relationship between both sexes in physical health, mental limitations, physical pain, and mental health. Also there was significant relationship between diseased and general health, physical pain and social activates P<0.05. There was also significant relationship between education level and general health, physical health, physical activity, mental limitation P<0.05. Higher education level showed higher scores. Conclusion: Although most patients express their general health in a good situation, we can not confirm a good quality of life 3 months after surgery. More research should be carried out to investigate this matter.
